It came as quite a surprise today when Chinese phone maker Elephone did announce that they will offer a two year warranty on all of their devices from now on. The only strange thing about that is, that they will only do free repairs within the first year. So basically nothing is changing? We don’t really see the point in offering a two year warranty with only one year of free repair
Another issue is that most people won’t buy their phones directly from Elephone. This means that one or more resellers will be within the supply chain. We all know that getting a free repair is nothing easy when it comes to Chinese resellers. Most of them will simply ignore you until you take away the money from them through PayPal in case you still have buyer protection. It is unknown yet if you can get in touch with Elephone directly, regardless if you have purchased the phone with another seller.
So in the end not much will change as far as we can overlook this matter. Still its nice to see that some manufacturer is at least trying to improve the situation. Maybe it will led to more manufacturers and resellers following them and improve the overall situation with repairs in the long run? We certainly hope so!
