Samsung Galaxy S2 Tab 9.7 Render, Confirmation

There’s not much to say about that render. It’s what’s expected.

Samsung accidentally confirms the existence of the Galaxy Tab S2

It’s probably too much to hope for, but it would be great if the S2 Tabs have a USB-C port instead of microUSB. And if that USB-C port was USB 3.x too. There’s enough lead time from USB-C appearing on the Nokia N1 — and then being adopted by Google, Apple, and others — for Samsung to have added it.

No screensnaps this time. But look carefully at the sample photos near the end. There’s a lot of greenery and none of it is muddied like most China tablet cameras. Also, the sample video looks spectacular. Another reason to get this over something less expensive from China. The camera doesn’t outright suck.

And a user handles the Vido i9 — Windows 8.1-only version — tablet [Google Translate]. It’s being promoted heavily on Weibo by Vido but I think it’s too late to gain any significant sales since it entered the market so late.

OnePlus One will continue to receive Cyanogen OTA updates in India

OnePlus has certainly had a difficult time selling its flagship One handset in India over the past few months. If you can recall back to October, Cyanogen made an exclusive agreement with Micromax, preventing any other company from selling Cyanogen-powered devices in India, including OnePlus. Cyanogen had a global licensing deal with OnePlus, but the Micromax deal took precedence over it. Then in December, the ban was lifted, and OnePlus was, once again, able to sell the One in India.

It looks like all legal troubles between these companies have finally subsided, because today, OnePlus announced that OnePlus One owners in India who are running Cyanogen OS will continue to receive OTA updates from here on out. The company explains:

…we are happy to confirm today that all legal proceedings have been resolved and the cases have been withdrawn through mutual consent. We hate donning suits and ties anyways. To make things sweeter, we would like to re-assure our customers and fans in India that our flagship phone, the “OnePlus One” will continue to receive OTA updates from Cyanogen in-line with our users in markets around the world.

OnePlus has also recently created its own Android-based ROM, OxygenOS. The OS replacement provides a stable, customizable experience for users looking for an alternative to Cyanogen.

Vivo X5 Pro specifications leak out, to be unveiled May 13th

According to the company’s official Weibo account, Vivo is slated to release its next smartphone, the X5 Pro, on Wednesday, May 13th. Seeing as how Vivo grabbed a ton of headlines in the past few months for producing one of the thinnest smartphones in the world, there’s no doubt that the company’s next handset will push the envelope in one way or another. And thanks to a new leak, we don’t have to wait until the 13th to see what this smartphone will bring to the table.

The X5 Pro has been spotted in a listing from Chinese wireless regulator TENAA, revealing a good amount of the device’s specs. According to the listing, the handset will have a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED 1080p display, a 13MP rear-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture, a 5MP front-facing camera with an f/2.4 aperture, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage. It will also have a 64-bit 1.7GHz octa-core processor, though the listing didn’t reveal what type, specifically. Previous rumors suggest that the device could come with a Snapdragon 615 CPU.

In addition, the device will run Vivo’s Funtouch OS 2.1 software overlay atop Android 5.0 Lollipop. While these are all solid specifications, the most impressive feature on this handset, by far, is the huge 4150mAh battery.

Other rumors have proposed that the X5 Pro will come with a 2.5D glass screen as well as some sort of eye recognition technology. There are no details as to what type of eye tracking tech will be included, so it looks like we’ll have to wait until the 13th to find out for sure.

Android 5.0 Lollipop now rolling out to the Sprint Galaxy S4

Sprint is now beginning to roll out Android 5.0 Lollipop to the Samsung Galaxy S4. The update, which will bring the build number up to L720VPUGOD2, is for the non-Spark variant of the device.

So what exactly will this update bring to your S4? Consisting of both aesthetic and under the hood enhancements, Lollipop brings a lot to the table. Google has included a ton of visual changes with its new Material Design guidelines, as well as a ton of new animations throughout the UI. These changes won’t be as noticeable as they are on a device running vanilla Android, thanks to Samsung’s Touchwiz overlay. Some additional features include the switch to the Android Runtime (ART), Priority Mode notifications, Smart Lock and much more. According to the software update page, it doesn’t look like Sprint has included any carrier-specific changes in this update.

Huawei MediaPad M2 tablet gets unveiled in France

Huawei quietly took the wraps off the MediaPad M2 tablet with 8” display and metal body in France. The slate made an appearance in a pop-up Huawei boutique in central Paris.

The Huawei MediaPad M2 packs 64-bit Kirin 930 chipset with 2GHz octa-core CPU developed in-house, coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable memory. The 8” display has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels.

Huawei MediaPad M2 has an 8MP main camera, coupled with 2MP front-facing unit. It boots customized Android Lollipop and has Cat. 4 LTE support.

The tablet is 7.8mm thin and weighs 310 grams. It is powered by a 4,800mAh battery.

The MediaPad M2 is expected to hit the shelves in early June. It is priced at €349.

OnePlus to announce HydrogenOS on May 28

Smartphone manufacturer OnePlus has confirmed that HydrogenOS will be released in its home country of China on May 28.

For those who aren't in the know, HydrogenOS is the Chinese variant of the company's OxygenOS ROM, which was released for the One last month. It is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop, and is said to feature battery life improvements and performance enhancements.

Meanwhile, Google is also expected to announce the next iteration of Android - currently codenamedAndroid M - at the company's annual I/O developer conference, which also kicks off on May 28.

ZTE is taking its Nubia brand to India starting with the Z9 Mini

ZTE's Nubia sub-brand has mostly been confined to China so far, but that's about to change. The company is now busy establishing an online presence for itself in India, which signifies that Nubia's entry into the subcontinent is very close.

Recently Nubia has launched a few interesting smartphones, perhaps the most intriguing of all being theZ9 with its zero lateral bezels. This has only been official for a day or so, but apparently it's not the first handset that will launch in India.

According to some unnamed sources, that honor will go to the Nubia Z9 Mini, a device which was unveiled alongside the Z9 Max. While that will probably be sold in India too, the Z9 Mini should be the first Nubia phone on that market.

Pricing for the Nubia Z9 Mini in India is still a mystery, but keeping in mind that it costs CNY 1,499 in China ($241), it can't be much more expensive in the subcontinent when it does land. A price tag of around INR 16,000 seems plausible.

The Nubia Z9 Mini has a 5-inch 1080p touchscreen, a 16 MP main camera with LED flash, an 8 MP selfie snapper, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, and a 2,900 mAh battery. It runs Android 5.0.2 Lollipop underneath ZTE's Nubia UI 2.8, and it's powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 615 SoC, which comes with an octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU.

HTC Nexus 9 will receive Android 5.1.1 update starting today

A couple of days ago Google started rolling out the update to Android 5.0.2 for the HTC Nexus 9 tablet, marking the first new software release for this device in almost half a year.

And now, Google has announced that the update to Android 5.1.1 for the Nexus 9 will go out later today.

This is great news for owners of the beleaguered tablet, since it means the Nexus 9 will finally be running the latest version of the OS, just like all the other Nexus devices out there.

Undoubtedly the fact that this particular device is the only Nexus to sport a 64-bit chipset had something to do with the delay in updates for it, but hopefully all the issues that were responsible for that have been fixed and this won't happen again in the future.

As for the Android 5.1.1 OTA, do expect this to slowly make its way to Nexus 9 units out there within the next few days.

P.T. demo taken down from the PSN Store

To say the cancelling of Silent Hills was disappointing is an understatement. Many fans were hoping to see this game become a reality, yet we recently learnt the project was taken down and soon even the P.T. teaser demo would be taken down from the PSN Store.

The game was taken down by April 29th, but even after that, those who had already downloaded the demo in the past could go back and grab it again. Today PSN goes straight to the jugular by taken the game away completely. No one can download it now! The game is gone, and so are all the traces it left behind.

Dead Island 2 delayed

Don’t get your end-of-days attitude hypes up yet. It turns out the second zombie apocalypse is coming much later than anticipated. While the game Dead Island was expected to be released in the Spring of 2015, the developers have announced such feat will not be possible.

Instead, they plan to release Dead Island 2 in 2016, something they announced with a heavy heart. We know some fans will be upset, but making a game sure isn’t easy, guys.

Sony brings PlayStation Now to PlayStation 3

PlayStation Now has been expanding to a plethora of Sony devices, but so far PS3 owners have been left out of the game. This will be no more, as Sony has just announced their game streaming service is to come to the PS3 come May 12th.

The same idea will apply. Users can pay a monthly subscription or pay for them individually. There’s a collection of over 100 PS3 games you can have access to, so there will be more than enough fun to go around.
