Elephone S1 coming for just $70?
Is the Elephone S1 coming for just $70? off the back of their moderately successful S2 and S2 phones, Elephone are set to launch their next S series phones the S1 and S1 Plus.
The Elephone S1 will have a 5 inch screen whilst the S1 Plus will come with a 5.5-inch screen, both phones feature glass rear panels, hopefully like the latest version of the S2 they will launch with Corning Gorilla Glass.
A metal chassis should help to keep the phone feeling solid in the hand, going by the renders Elephone are aiming for a premium style at a budget price, to keep the price down so low some corners will need to be cut, this is where the inclusion of a lower end Mediatek chip, the quad core ARM Cortex-A7 MPcore MT6580 chip to be precise.
The inclusion of the chip does have some limits, unless they manage to couple it with an LTE modem it will be a strictly 3g handset, I guess when your looking at a phone with a price tag around $70 (£46), there is a good chance that you are still on a 3G data plan rather than a more costly 4G LTE plan.
What do you think? is there still a market for non 4G LTE handsets in 2015 and on in to 2016? are Elephone playing a winning hand that will see them clean up at the bottom end? or is it too little power in a market of 4G handsets.
