Android version stats; Lollipop (Android 5.0, 5.1) is now installed on 18.1% of Devices

Google has updated its monthly chart showing the distribution of the various versions of Android. But, it skipped the July release for some unknown reason. That’s why the changes between the previous update (June 1) & the current one (August 3) are quite significant.
Chart is mainly to provide developers relevant information for platform support, the data provided can be quite useful as a State of the Nation for Android overall.
As of August 3rd, Lollipop now powers 18.1% of Android devices, which represents an increase of 5.7% over the last time Google updated the charts. Trickling down, KitKat at 39.3%, then Jelly Bean at 33.6%, while Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich make up 8.9% together.
Lastly, Android 2.2 Froyo, which is now almost five years old, is somehow still staying around on 0.3% of devices. These of the stats include active Android devices, which Google defines as phones that have been checked into Google’s Play Store app.
Android M has been promised for Q3 2015 (by end of September), but it’s likely that M-running devices won’t be captured in Google’s dashboard until December.
The next month should see Lollipop take some more share away from KitKat as more phones are updated & newer models come with Android 5.1 right out of the box.
