iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus: what we don’t know yet

As most of you probably know by now, Apple unveiled yesterday two new iPhone models, the 4.7-inchiPhone 6, and the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus. However, although the Cupertino-based manufacturer did share a lot of information on its two upcoming smartphones, there are a lot of very important details that weren’t revealed yet.
Unfortunately, most of the tech media keeps presenting rumored information as official specifications, leading to a lot of confusion among those interested in learning more about the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. To that extent, we have compiled a list of the things that we don’t know for sure yet on the two new iPhone models.

iPhone 6 RAM

A lot of tech websites claim that the iPhone 6 comes with 1GB of RAM, although Apple did not reveal exactly how much RAM that it has fitted inside the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. As was always the case with Apple products, the quantity of RAM was not mentioned at yesterday’s keynote, nor is it mentioned on Apple’s website. So what gives?
More than a few rumors surfaced over the past month claiming that the iPhone 6 line-up will come with just 1GB of RAM. Most of the iPhone rumors did come true, but not all of them, so it doesn’t make for a good journalistic practice to assume that the iPhone 6 and the 6 Plus will come with 1GB of RAM just because some rumors suggested so. At the very least, these websites should have told you that they are speculating on the quantity of RAM, as the information is not yet official.

iPhone 6 CPU Clock Speeds and Core Count

Most websites compare the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus against other high-end smartphones based on the fact that the two new Apple smartphones will feature a 1.4 GHz dual-core processor. While most rumors and leaks indicate that this is the case, this is not official information coming from Apple.
The only information Apple shares on the A8 is that the chip comes with a 20% faster CPU and a 50% faster GPU that the A7 chipset used inside the iPhone 5S. Although rumors and leaks suggest that the A8 features a dual-core Cyclone CPU and a PowerVR GX6650 GPU, we’ll have to wait until the new iPhone models reach the market and get tested by hardware professionals to find out if these are the exact specifications or not.
Also, please be aware of the fact that just because a CPU comes with eight cores, that doesn’t necessarily make it faster than a dual-core processor. The same goes for clock speeds. In fact, thisdetailed report from the hardware experts over at Anandtech shows that the 1.3GHz dual-core processor inside the Apple iPhone 5S outscored the 2.5GHz quad-core CPU inside the Galaxy S5 in almost every benchmark.

iPhone 6 Battery Size

Again, there are a lot of tech blogs out there who share rumored information on the iPhone 6 batteries like it’s coming straight from Apple. Although previous rumors and leaks suggest that the iPhone 6 comes with a 1810mAh battery, and the iPhone 6 Plus features a 2915mAh battery, this is not official info from Apple either.
What Apple does share on the topic is that the A8 chipset is up to 50% more power efficient than the A7, and that the two new iPhone models will have a battery life that’s better or equal in all aspects than the iPhone 5s. The battery life estimates that you can see above are taken from Apple’s website.

Conclusions

In a world where every tech blog wants to be able to analyze the hell out of the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, some of our colleagues have gone beyond what’s acceptable, probably in an attempt to cover all the bases. Now, all of these assumptions may turn to be accurate, but at the moment they are only rumors and unverified leaks. At the very least, these websites could have outlined the difference between official info and speculation.
What do you guys think about this? Is it acceptable for tech blogs to present rumored information as official? Drop us a comment in the section below and share your thoughts!
