Asus ready to drop price bar below $100 for MeMo Pad tablet line

We’re nearing a historical moment for low-cost Android tablets, ladies and gentlemen, as Asus is reported to be working on a sub-$100 MeMo Pad. And by that, we mean the next installment in the increasingly popular gadget line will be available for less than a Benjamin right off the bat instead of gradually and time-limitedly getting discounted, like a few of its predecessors.
According to credible speculation out of China, the ME70CX is to see daylight later this week, in Berlin, at IFA, and start selling in Asia by the end of the month. If Asus is bringing the slab to the old continent for its public debut though, a subsequent launch in a number of European emerging markets seems a given.
And so does a $95-$100 recommended retail price point. That’s affordable by any standards, and it’s really amazing when you consider we’re dealing with a household name in the business, whose reputation and reliability have been seriously boosted by the key role played in the Nexus program.
As you’d no doubt expect, the MeMo Pad 7 ME70CX will not break any speed records, albeit incredibly enough, its rumored list of features is slightly superior to ME170C’s spec sheet. Unlike the $109 tablet, the upcoming $95 7-incher sports solid dual cameras (3 and 2 MP respectively), and tips the scales at a more slender 279 grams.
That said, the ME70CX is actually thicker, at 12.5 mm, and the rest of the known specifications are the same old, same old: 1.2 GHz Intel Atom Z2520 SoC, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB internal storage space, Wi-Fi support, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB and microSD.
