Lenovo launches smartphones in Bahrain

"PCs still account for nearly 80 per cent of Lenovo's revenue, but the mobile-devices business, which represents 15pc, is growing quickly making it the world's fourth largest vendor of smartphones.

"The company has been quick to respond to changing market requirements and consumer demands and its smartphone range spans the gamut from entry level conscious spenders (A-series), social media and multimedia focused users (S-series) to top-end users (VIBE series)," added Mr Sutholiya.


The first wave of Lenovo's Android smartphones to hit the Bahrain market include the dual-SIM and quad-core S-series with a five-inch HD display and all-glass design S850; the 5.3-inch HD display and 4000mAh battery S860; the 4.7-inch HD display, laser-etched, fabric-feel cover and 3D-textured design S650.

The company has also launched the four-inch display dual-SIM A369i which runs on a 1.3GHz dual-core processor, meant for the affordable market segment.

Next month will see the release of the Vibe Z2 Pro, along with five other models, taking Lenovo's total Bahrain portfolio to 10 smartphones.

"The Middle East, GCC in particular, is a strategically important market for us towards our long-term goal to lead the personal computer plus (PC+) era," Lenovo Middle East and Africa Mobile Business Group director Shashank Sharma said.

He feels that the continued expansion of 4G networks in the region and a strong push towards smart cities and connectivity is driving a natural consumer need for smartphones at all levels.

"According to an Ipsos MediaCT report, smartphone users in Middle East and Africa are expected to reach 156.4 million this year and 251.9m by 2017," said Lenovo Middle East and Africa head of smartphone business Sharay Shams.
