I’ve been banging my fist on the table for a tablet with a terabyte of storage for years now.

Just not at this damn price …

And the hell of technology is that in about ten years, that’ll be US$269 and be considered low-end.

Microsoft’s announcements look exciting but the reality is often a letdown.

Still, I’d like to do a Google Books PDF test even on the cheapest one, just to see. Microsoft will be opening a store in NYC shortly. Even so, trying to use something other than what’s already installed — hello, Adobe Reader X — will likely be impossible.

Waterstones is removing Amazon’s Kindle devices from many of it stores as sales “continue to be pitiful”.

Why is this any surprise?!

People have large phones to read on.

And better tablets.

When — and if — they read at all something other than narcissistic IMing.

Polish Kruger & Matz EDGE 1161 tablet does a pretty good impression of a Surface Pro

Fresh from Polish firm Kruger & Matz is the EDGE 1161 tablet, a very Surface Pro looking piece of kit that has an 11.6-inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel display and runs on an Intel M-5Y10c dual core processor.

On the memory front there’s 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage, and keeping the the tradition of its influence there’s a kickstand and type cover in there too.

This is a Windows device and will launch at just over $500.

Few gaming tablets look as resolutely build for purpose as the JXD Singularity S192, a gaming tablet powered by an NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor and with a massive 10,000mAh battery to keep the fun flowing.

Housed in the middle of the controller sides is a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1250 pixels.

The quad-core NVIDIA Tegra K1 clocked at 2GHz is backed up by 2GB of RAM and 16GB storage, which is expandable via microSD.

The tablet has built-in d-pad and toggles for options, as well as shoulder buttons and right-side buttons that look like those of an XBox One.

There’s also a dual speaker system so everyone on the bus can enjoy your firepower.

We will make Android 6.0, Marshmallow available for: Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia M5, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua and Xperia C4.

No Xperia T2 Ultra listed.

At least, to its great credit, Sony did update the T2 Ultra to Android 5.x.

But with the Xperia C5 Ultra not coming to the U.S., there’s no phone with a six-inch screen from Sony to replace the T2 Ultra. That’s a mistake.

e-ink Noteslate SHiRO finally available and updated to roll with the times

Long after the first rumblings back in 2011, the Noteslate SHiRO e-ink tablet is available to pre-order.

The tablet works as both a standard e-book reader and, more notably, a notepad with which you can scribble ideas and drawings using the accompanying stylus.

The SHiRO has a 1080 x 1440 pixel resolution and runs on a low-power FreeScale SoloLite processor clicked at 1GHz.

Power can be saved further with the choice of modes: grayscale or the more efficient 1-bit mode.

It’s a simple but neat looking unit and could prove genuinely useful for those who want a digital notebook but not the weight, glare and battery life of a regular tablet.

The tablet will ship in March 2016 and is available to pre-order now for $199.
