Samsung acquires SmartThings

Samsung acquires SmartThings

A month after its initial rumor, Samsung’s acquisition of SmartThings has finally concluded. The acquired startup makes smart-home controllers, allowing for simple and affordable home automation.
The deal is said to have gone for $200 million. The company will continue to work independently, but under Samsung’s wallet. They will be relocating to Palo Alto, CA, though.
Opinion: Home automation is not being exploited by the mobile companies, and it’s a market that will only grow in the coming years. Samsung is no stranger to adventures – they definitely like taking their risks.
